The Monsoon, or Green Season:
The
monsoon season runs from May through October, and during this period the
seas are often too rough for swimming. But during the wet season there is as
much good weather as bad, and there are other attractions during this time
of year. Hotels refer to this time of year as the ‘Green Season’, and indeed
it is. The rains clean the air and turn the countryside a lush green, with
huge tropical leaves lining the roads around the island. The forests are at
their very best.
Sunny periods break the monsoon season regularly,
and these stretches of a few days each can be amongst the clearest most
beautiful of the year. The cloud formations are often dramatic, and may
create breath-taking sunsets .
For photographer John Everingham, whose photographs have made Phuket
Magazine famous, the clear breaks during the monsoon season are the most
rewarding and precious time of year for his work. |
