Cape Panwa and the Southeast Corner
Cape Panwa – the quietest corner of the island
Three up-market resorts are found on this long, southeast peninsula, all
ideal for those who really want a quiet corner to themselves
Getting away to a quiet spot is the
ideal for many, but remember to balance this against the long drive
required to find any entertainment or outside restaurants.
Panwaburi Resort
This,
the newest of the three up-market resorts on this long, quiet peninsula
is designed to slumber gracefully on a private hillside, with each of
its bungalow-style rooms gazing out over the sea towards the Phi Phi
Islands. Walkways meander through a tropical garden, connecting rooms,
restaurants, the spa and a quiet little beach at the bottom of the
hillside. The architecture is distinctive, a mixture Thai and Balinese
influences. The whole resort has been sculptured into its garden
setting, making this one of the most attractive boutique resorts on
Phuket.
The
Cape Panwa Hotel This was the first hotel in this part of the
island, and naturally it took one of the finest locations, complete with
its own little beach. Set amongst coconut palms on the side of a hill,
most rooms have great views out to sea.
The recently opened Panwa Beach Resort is the newest addition to
this part of the island. It is on the west side of the peninsula,
looking back towards Chalong.
From Cape Panwa Hotel it is about a 15 minute drive to Phuket town, and
about 45 minutes to reach any of the west coast beaches. Cape Panwa is
becoming popular as a high-end residential corner of the island, with
several housing developments here. The whole peninsula is a high ridge
that slopes down to the sea on both sides, giving almost every house
here an ocean view. The fact that there is no entertainment district
here, and few commercial buildings save the port and fuel depot, makes
this whole area quiet and attactive.
