Snakes, beautiful snakes
Hello! I am John
Everingham, the author of this website, and here I introduce a rather
personal page in which I indugle my greatest passion. As a young boy in
Australia I was an avid snake collector and keeper, and I still retain a
passion for these beautiful reptiles.
Being a photographer, I delight in photographing them, and am slowly
buidling up a collection of photographs of the snakes of Thailand. I can
often be seen in Chatuchak market in Bangkok at weekends, buying unusual or
beautiful snakes. Most of these are photographed and released to the wild. I
keep a few.
In the Phuket office of ARTASIA PRESS (of which I am the founder and MD) I
keep a beautiful Golden Burmese python. I purchased this snake in Bangkok
shortly after it hatched in 1996, and took the photo below of it wrapped
around my fingers. I include a more recent photo of it at an impressive
3-and-a-half metres. But this is still a small specimen, for Burmese pythons
can grow to seven metres, large enough to eat a small human. But Burmese are
not reknown as man-eaters. It is the giant Reticulated Python of Southeast
Asia that eats the occasional person. This, the longest snake in the world,
has been measured at about 10 metres.
Below I offer some photos of snakes for anyone interested. Should anyone
come across a rare or unusual snake, and has means to capture it, I would be
delighted to help identify it, and to photograph it.
Best Regards, from
John Everingham
