It is part of the famed Laguna Phuket complex
in central Bang Tao, with five luxury hotels on the beach side of the greens
Tucked away in the Laguna Resort Complex, Laguna Phuket Golf Club is the
perfect resort course. This Max Wexler designed course meanders through
lagoons, a coconut plantation and features water on eight of the back nine
holes. Low handicappers will find that it gives plenty of challenges to test
their skills, but higher handicappers need not feel overawed.
The course is set on a valley floor overlooked by low wooded hills. The
well-landscaped layout is dotted with lumps of palm and graceful casuarinas
trees. The fairways flow nicely, the bunkers are moulded and the greens are
generally large and welcoming.

The par-4 10th hole is particularly challenging,
with a very difficult second into a thin green protected by water and a
lakeside bunker, while the back-to-back par-5 17th and 18th holes make for
an unusual finish. Another taxing signature hole is the 16th, offering
fabulous views of the Andaman Sea and a green encased by a myriad of 12
gaping bunkers. On a windy day, the sea breeze will spice up your game
further, but that is part of the fun.
The extensive practice facilities provided by Banyan Tree Club include a
driving range, putting greens, practice bunkers and chipping areas - so you
can refine both your short game and your tee shots. The club also stages
regular tournaments and provides tuition by a resident professional from the
USA. The well-appointed clubhouse and pro shop offer an impressive range of
golfing accessories, as well as a billiard table, three tennis courts and
the Banyan Café.
