Phuket Country Club
Phuket’s first golf course remains one of its most popular with local residents
Established in 1989, Phuket Country Club, located on
Route 4020 between Patong and Phuket Town, was the first 18-hole golf course
built on the island. Designed by Thai architect Dr. Sukitti Klangvisai, who
also designed Loch Palm, PCC is set in rolling foothills around a large
lake. The mature and varied trees, plants and flowers around the course lend
it a special beauty. It is distinguished by having six holes winding through
undulating hills, another six on the level, while the remainder pass through
landscaped forest. The holes themselves vary in their degree of challenge.
The best-known hole in PCC is the 557-yard, par-5, 10th. This runs around a lake and you have to hit over water at least twice if you decide to go around. The really big, brave hitter can drive to a narrow, 15-yard wide area in front of the green, a carry of 225 yards over water. Thus, this 10th hole is one of the few par-5 holes that you can be on, or close to, in one.
The club also boasts a new course for low
handicappers, possibly one of the best nine-hole layouts in Asia and rated
recently by Asian Golf Magazine as the best on Phuket. No hole is without
water, with some of them needing stupendous effort to carry – so take plenty
of balls with you. |
