Bungalows and cheaper places to stay

Want a small, quiet place? cheap? away from the main stream?

There are plenty of choices in and around Phuket

Prices? Small bungalows about the island will charge from about 500 Baht (US$12) to 1,500 Baht depending on location and facilities. During the off season - May to November, prices can be even cheaper, and one can bargain for a better price with most small establishments.

Use the pages in this site and our maps

Today the internet makes this hunt much easier, for in E-savvy Thailand even small operators are using it to connect to new guests. Our List of Resorts, Hotels and Bungalows includes virtually every establishment on and off the island, so that’s a good place to start. Also, look at our maps for the locations of small and interesting places set up on some of the remote islands.

What to pay

Prices, naturally, are not what they were in the ‘good old days’. But the Baht is down, and prices for accommodation seem great value for those arriving with foreign currency from Europe, America or Japan. The cheapest one could expect to find a small and basic bungalow with private bathroom is about 300 Baht. For 1,000 Baht a rather attractive bungalow in a good location can be yours. The word ‘bungalow’ does not always denote cheap or simple, and many top-end resorts are now returning to the independent bungalow-in-a-garden style of architecture

If you really want to ‘get-away-from-it-all’ you can certainly do it right here on Phuket Island, while the remote islands off-shore offer the average tourist the chance to find an isolated paradise - and perhaps go crazy with boredom. The truly adventurous will find some wonderful escapes on the many islands surrpiunding Phuket – but do take a partner, some insect repellent and a heart full of patience.

Here are some bungalows on Phuket itself that we recommend:

Nai Harn Beach: a road runs right under the Phuket Yacht Club Hotel, and leads to two bungalow resorts, Ao Sane and Jungle Beach Resort.

Kata Noi At the southern end of Kata Noi there are bungalows set on the hillside, giving great sea views.

Kata Beach At the back of Kata, particularly the southern end, there are many small and relatively cheap bungalows and rooms for rent. There is a pleasant village atmosphere in Kata with lots of small restaurants and some bars.

Chalong-Rawai There is no swimming beach here and one needs one's own transport, but some of the bungalow establishments facing Chalong Bay, off the road from the Chalong circle to Rawai, are very pleasant.
Vichit Bungalow
Friendship Beach

Kamala The village near the beach in Kamala has seen many local residents turn their homes into guesthouses. There are pleasant places to stay at good prices.

Bang Tao There are four sets of bungalows at the south end of Bang Tao. See the Bang Tao page.

Bungalows on surrounding islands.
There are many great escapes on small islands off Phuket. See our page on Other islands. Or for places further afield hunt through the Andaman Region section. There are many.
